Stonyhurst College has a distinguished history as one of Britain’s leading Catholic boarding schools. Fr. Robert Persons SJ originally founded the College in St. Omer in 1593 under the patronage of Philip II of Spain to provide a Catholic education for boys at a time when such an education was prohibited in England. The school is now located in Clitheroe, Lancashire and is protected by an existing EDA Millennium system, which is looked after by one of our long-term partners, R.V. Fire Systems. R.V. Fire Systems were asked to design, supply, install and commission a fire detection and alarm system to BS5839 L1 in a new build state of the art refectory / catering facility. In conjunction with the consulting engineer, R.V. Fire Systems proposed an EDA Zerio Plus wireless system for ease of installation and reliability. The refectory building was constructed of locally quarried stone which was then cut and dressed by the college’s own stonemasons. R.V. Fire Systems carried out a full site signal test prior to installation to ensure that the finished system operated as required and achieved good signal strengths throughout the site. The kitchen area and plant room proved a particular challenge due to extensive ducting, extract hoods etc. The project was completed well within the construction time-scales and both the builder and the College were delighted by the finished installation, which has around 100 devices.
The Zerio Plus system is capable of looking after 240 devices and is available as an 8, 20 or 100 zone panel. The system is engineer friendly and does not require any special software, leads or hardware to complete installation.
